iMedia Associates and Trias Consult were delighted to present our findings of a midline process evaluation to BBC Media Action’s Bridges teams in Bangkok last month. The workshop brought together producers, mentors, researchers and project managers to work out how to refine delivery plans for the final year of implementation. Focussed on addressing the gap between climate scientists and communities, the Bridges project aims to help climate-vulnerable populations in Kenya, Nepal and Bangladesh to adapt and stay safe. It’s an ambitious project that has tailored its approach to each local context. Amongst other achievements the project fostered collaborative relationships between journalists and scientists, and many of those we spoke to were invested in new ways of working. The result? We saw evidence of impactful, solutions-focused reporting that drives real adaptive behaviour change.
A core challenge, as with any time-bound development project, remains in cultivating embedded systems-level change amongst those institutions responsible for communicating weather information. We’d be interested to hear from anyone with experience navigating this hurdle, and we are sure the Bridges team would welcome those insights as well.
The Bridges project is funded by NORAD till 2027. The midline evaluation was conducted by a multi-regional team, led by Alice Jenner.
